Prelude to a Disaster

It’s become widely accepted that ‘global warming’ exists, and that our societies’ current rates of carbon emission are imperiling future generations. Millions of people agree that we are robbing our unborn descendants of their right to an inhabitable planet – something that their ancestors foolishly took for granted. This increasing awareness is translating into a growing consensus that our so-called ‘leaders’ need to intervene in order to fix this problem and correct this historic injustice. Unfortunately, most environmental activists continue to be hampered by a false understanding of how power operates in society, the scale of the problem that we face… and what would actually be required to fix it. In ‘Prelude to a Disaster’, subMedia takes a closer look at these dynamics, arguing for the importance of taking bold action to defend local bio-regions, even as we work towards the total overthrow and replacement of the global capitalist economy.”

Solidarity

In this workshop we will collectively think through questions around solidarity, accountability and transformation in our communities and movements.”

Not seen, not heard: night time skills

Sometimes our actions require us to get in place before we’ve been spotted. This practical outdoor session is about moving about in the countryside at night without being noticed or identified. Bring warm, tough clothes and a torch if you have them. Depending on the terrain near the site, the session may involve moving on rough and muddy ground. There will be an option to practise moving on hands, knees and tummies for those who can and want to. If you have questions about the accessibility of this session, please ask someone at the welcome desk to put you in touch with the workshop facilitators.

Fences: over, under and through

This practical session focuses on getting into places when there’s a fence in our way. It is aimed at beginners and people who want to increase their confidence. Exactly what we do will depend on what appropriate fences we find near the site, but we are likely to spend a large proportion of time practising climbing. If you have questions about the accessibility of this session, please ask someone at the welcome desk to put you in touch with the workshop facilitators.
